Project Overview
The Food Justice Truck is an award winning mobile fresh food market that improves food security for people seeking asylum in the Victorian community. It offers locally sourced produce grains legumes tea and bread at a seventy five percent discount to people seeking asylum. The project was developed in collaboration with the ASRC and a diverse group of key stakeholders through several design thinking workshops and concept design stages.
Challenge & Results
Key challenges included building trust with a community that often faces barriers to accessing mainstream services and ensuring the mobile market was culturally appropriate and welcoming. The team navigated logistical complexities such as sourcing affordable fresh produce and coordinating routes to reach areas of greatest need. Results of the project included increased access to nutritious food for people seeking asylum and the creation of a supportive social space that fostered community connections. The initiative also inspired similar models in other regions and contributed to broader conversations about food justice and social inclusion.
