The Returnr Original Cup Range was designed to solve a deceptively hard brief: a reusable coffee cup robust enough to run through hundreds of commercial cycles, comfortable enough for daily use, and efficient enough to nest and transport at scale.

Twin-walled stainless steel was selected for its performance and its sustainability credentials. It's non-porous and doesn't retain odours or stains, so the same cup moves cleanly from a flat white to a chai without carrying flavour between drinks. Unlike plastic or ceramic, it doesn't degrade, crack or shed microplastics with repeated washing, giving it a genuinely long working life. It's made from over 70% recycled material, and stainless steel can be recycled indefinitely without any loss in quality — recycling it also uses significantly less energy than producing it from virgin ore, making it one of the lowest-impact materials available for a product designed to be reused thousands of times.

Proportions and wall thickness were tuned for insulation, grip and stacking, with the cup profile designed to nest tightly within itself — reducing storage footprint behind the counter and cutting volume during transport and logistics. Two lid options were developed alongside it: a reusable silicone lid for everyday use, and an uncoated, fully recyclable moulded bagasse lid as a lighter-touch alternative. Every detail, from wall geometry to rim finish, was considered for the realities of a busy commercial kitchen — the result is widely regarded as the first reusable cup purpose-built for genuine shared use.
